Plexr® Plasma therapy, otherwise known as “soft-surgery”, is an amazing device from Italy from GMV and is widely used in Europe. It is internationally patented, and FDA cleared. Plasma is the “4th” state of energy and when delivered by a hand-held device, it “sublimates” or simply aerosolizes skin cells. Instead of cutting and removing skin, we aerosolize them. For you science geeks, it ionizes the air present between its terminal and the epidermis, generating a radius of micro-plasma. What is left is a small “scab” and the tissue targeted is “gone”.

However the small injury biostimulates. During the healing process, the body produces new collagen and elastin. The thermal injury is less deep than similar devices such as fibroblast devices and thus produces less injury, less downtime and less chance of scarring, plus no stiches!

I call my Plexr® my “work horse” for my dermatology procedures. I use it to easily remove benign lesions such as milia, seborrheic keratosis (ie barnacles), skin tags, etc. However, one of it’s most amazing applications is upper and lower eyelid lifts! Plexr® has a wide range of therapeutic uses, treating several imperfection without actually cutting the skin. It can be used for:

  • Eyelid reconstruction (non-surgical blepharoplasty), including resolving baggy lower eyelids and excess upper eyelid skin
  • Tattoo removal
  • Skin imperfections and benign lesions include fibromas, pigmentation, and sun spots
  • Improvement in the appearance of scarring, including post-surgery scars, acne scars, and stretch marks
  • Treatment of lines and wrinkles around the mouth
  • Facelift and neck lift
  • Active acne
  • and more!

Q: How long does it last?

A: Plexr® treatment involves the removal of skin, making it more than a simple tightening treatment. While the effects of surgical and cosmetic procedures are not entirely permanent due to aging, the positive results of Plexr® treatment should last for years rather than months. However, factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and prolonged sun exposure can reduce the length of the beneficial effects. Additionally, the longevity of the results can be influenced by race and genetics. Your consultation can provide further information.

Q: What are the side effects and risks?

A: Although Plexr® is a non-invasive treatment and is

considered safe, patients may experience minor side effects within the first seven days after treatment. Brown marks resembling minor scabs, called carbon crusts, will appear, falling off after around five days to reveal new pink skin underneath. In some cases, swelling may occur, particularly when treating eyelids, but typically lasts no more than 3-5 days. To prevent more severe side effects such as hyperpigmentation, it’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions.

Q: Who is not a candidate for Plexr®?

A: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid Plexr®,

similar to other cosmetic procedures. While some darker skin types may be appropriate for the

treatment, it is not recommended for individuals with very dark skin due to a higher risk of

hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or hypopigmentation (light spots) after treatment, especially if the

carbon crust is disturbed by scratching, scrubbing, or picking. It’s crucial to consult a healthcare

professional or doctor before proceeding with any treatment regime.

Q: What is the post treatment recommendations?

A: To ensure the treatment area is cleaned quickly, it’s recommended that you avoid wearing makeup on the day of your Plexr® treatment. The

treatment typically takes 10-40 minutes, depending on the size of the area. An anesthetic cream is

applied and left to take effect for around 30 minutes before multiple plasma tip shots are placed

closely together in the numb treatment area. You may experience a slightly painful and uncomfortable heat sensation during the procedure. Your practitioner will provide you with thorough aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results. Avoid using exfoliating wash or cleanser for at least a week or until the treatment area has fully healed, and instead, opt for a pH-balanced soap and avoid rubbing the area.

So again, plasma therapy is just another example of regenerative medicine that uses the body’s natural healing processes to restore form and function. Regenerative medicine is now what I consider the “state of the art” part of aesthetic medicine. Come see me for a consultation to see what treatments would be best to accomplish your goals.
