What is Facial Balancing?

The simple explanation is that it is about treating the face as a whole instead of treating just one area.  The goal is not to change how you look, but to enhance your natural features.

Facial balancing is about creating harmony between your features so no single area looks “overdone”.  We have all seen examples of this with celebrities and in our everyday encounters while in public.  Unfortunately, this is what keeps some people from seeking out cosmetic treatments.  I have heard so many times from clients that they are concerned about “not looking like myself”, or concerns that “everyone will know that I did something to my face”.  This is why facial balancing is important.

Think of the face as if was divided into three sections: 1) upper face (forehead and brows), 2) mid-face (cheeks/under-eye), and 3) lower face (cheeks, chin and jawline).  It is easier to understand how they can complement each other, or one can become the focus or dominant feature.

For example, if one feature (like lips), is overfilled, then it becomes obvious and can look unnatural.  If someone feels that they have small lips and want to get them “filled”, sometimes the real issue is that their cheeks or chin doesn’t project enough.  If the injector only fills the lips and doesn’t address the cheeks or chin, it can look unnatural.  However, if they do address these areas there may not be a need to put much filler in the lips at all.  That way everything fits together in a balanced way.

Small adjustments in a few areas can bring everything into better balance and actually delivers a more natural result, rather than focusing on only one area.  This is something an experienced injector understands and should be a part of a productive consultation.
