Breaking Down Microneedling with Nurse Nina
I’ve been in Aesthetics long enough to remember when microneedling only meant one thing and with one device. Well, things have come a long way! There is a lot of confusion about the difference between microneedling and microneedling with RF (Radio Frequency).
There are some very basic differences and why your provider would choose one over the other.
First and foremost, they BOTH are creating micro-injuries to the skin which stimulates your body to produce more collagen. However, the main difference here is heat. There is no heat with traditional microneedling, and heat with RF microneedling. Why would I want heat and why would I use no heat?
So, let’s look at traditional, no heat microneedling. Again, microneedling creates micro injuries that stimulate collagen production. This is used for skin texture improvement, minimizing the look of pores, treating fine lines and treating scars from acne, surgery or injury. There is minimal discomfort with this method and topical anesthetic is used with good results.
Microneedling with RF also creates micro injury but with a stamping technique from the device. Additionally, radiofrequency heat is applied under the skin. This is typically deeper in the skin. If the RF is applied deep, it can be uncomfortable without proper localized numbing. However, RF has the major advantage for tightening skin and also selectively can destroy fat at certain depths.
Regular microneedling helps:
* Texture
* Pore size
* Acne scars
* Mild fine lines
* Brighten skin
* Without fat destruction
* Multiple treatments required
RF Microneedling helps:
* Skin laxity
* Deeper wrinkles
* Crepey skin
* Acne scars with laxity
* Possible fat destruction if desired
* Multiple treatments required
* More expensive (typically)
It is important when deciding to have any microneedling treatment to consult with a knowledgeable provider to choose the best treatment for your needs and desired outcome. Microneedling is a wonderful tool and can address many different conditions and aesthetic concerns.
At It Must Be Kismet Medical + Aesthetics, we offer traditional microneedling as well as TWO RF microneedling machines: Sylfirm X and Morpheus8 Burst for face and body.
