Nurse Nina on Radiesse v. Sculptra
As an injector, I use both Radiesse and Sculptra. I love them both and am often asked “why do you suggest one over the other”.
Both Radiesse and Sculptra are biostimulators but behave differently.
Radiesse is the first injectable I used over 16 years ago. It is made of Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). This is used for the patient that wants more “immediate” volume while also getting collagen stimulation. Though some results are immediate, results get better over time with the collagen growth.
I like Radiesse in the jawline, chin, hands, lower face, hands and even neck (with hyperdilution). Additionally, it can be used in body parts for skin rejuvenation, especially after weight loss. It provides great structural support in the face and is a powerful biostimulator for both collagen types 1 and 3 and elastin. This product can last for years depending on your ability to build and hang onto collagen. It is also the preferred biostimulator over Sculptra with any patient that has an autoimmune disease.
Sculptra is made from Poly-lactic acid (PLLA) which they derive from beets! This is a more gradual collagen stimulator that works over weeks to months. Most patients start to see results in 2-4 months or more. It usually requires a couple of treatments over a few months. I usually start with 2 vials and have the patient return in 4-6 weeks for another 1 or 2 vials. I like to use Sculptra in temples, cheeks, and generalized facial volume loss. This product can also last for years.
So, you can think of it this way:
Choose Radiesse if:
-
You have an autoimmune disorder.
-
You want instant improvement.
-
You need lift and contour, especially in the jawline or chin
-
You want to improve the look of aging hands
Choose Sculptra if:
-
You want subtle, gradual results.
-
You have overall facial volume loss rather than needing precise contouring.
-
You are willing to wait a few months for the full effect.
-
You want longer lasting collagen stimulation.
Which one looks more natural?
Both Radiesse and Sculptra can look very natural if performed properly. We offer both at It Must Be Kismet. So, a proper consultation to discuss your needs and desires is crucial in picking which biostimulator is perfect for you.
